Cheese Maturation Team

Description

We are looking for a hard-working cheese enthusiast to take up a full time, permanent position on our Cheese Maturation Team.

Based at our maturing arches in Bermondsey SE16, and working Monday-Saturday, the team is responsible for receiving, managing, maturing, and supplying the rest of the business with the entirety of the stock we sell, that’s a lot of cheese!

You will receive comprehensive training across all areas – hard and soft cheese maturation, the logistics of goods in & out, Lean methods of provision and replenishment.

Practically speaking, you will be involved in receiving deliveries, tasting, turning and washing cheese; cleaning racks, boards, crates and floors; preparing and grating cheese that would otherwise be wasted.

You will learn to supply the Export, Wholesale, Ecommerce and Retail departments with everything they sell. You will attend the weekly team meeting in which cheese quality and supply are discussed alongside the other priorities of the department, plans made, responsibilities allocated. You will also help the Production Team from time to time.

Accuracy, attention to detail, adaptability and awareness of the work and people around you are essential. We are managing a constant flow of goods in and out, and priorities can change from one moment to the next. You’ll need to be a quick learner and adept listener and observer. An existing forklift licence would be an advantage though we do facilitate training.

The job is physically demanding - we handled 600 tons of cheese last year, and all of it was lifted and turned numerous times. Rigorous cleaning is also an essential daily task and we do lots of it! Finally, the team takes turns to work the 4am shift for a full week at a time every 6-8 weeks, so you would need to be able to get to Bermondsey for 4am.

We offer a competitive package with a starting rate of £10.85 per hour, full on the job training including MHE, staff lunches and a steady supply of excellent tea, coffee, fresh bread and cheese.

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, we would like to hear from you ASAP as we are looking to fill this position quickly. To apply, please complete the form below.
