Virtual Tasting Selection

Join us in our first ever virtual tasting experience, as we discuss four of our favourite cheeses and the styles, makes and maturation behind them. The Virtual Tasting Selection will give you the chance to enjoy your cheese on your own schedule, guided by our wholesale manager Srdja. The tasting is recorded within our maturation arches, giving an insight into Neal's Yard Dairy and our involvement in each stage of the cheese's life.

Please scroll down to watch the virtual tasting, which lasts for just under half an hour.

Please note, if you purchase multiple selections as one order, we will amalgamate them into one large box. Please contact us if you wish to have items packaged separately. Click here to find out more about our gifting service.

Select your preferred delivery date at checkout. As we use third party couriers (typically DPD) we cannot guarantee the arrival day of your order but we will do our best to ensure that it arrives as close as possible to your chosen date. To be sure it arrives in time, we suggest choosing a date a couple of days ahead of when you would like to eat your cheese.

Baron Bigod

Animal Rennet

Raw

Silky at its rind but crumbly at its core, this Suffolk-born, traditional Brie-style cheese balances a clean lactic brightness with mushroomy, vegetal notes.

Kirkham's Lancashire

milk type
Cow

coagulant
Animal Rennet

milk treatment
Raw

Best known for its inimitable crumbly-yet-creamy texture – a texture the Kirkham family call ‘buttery crumble’ – this raw milk farmhouse Lancashire boasts a bright, full flavour finished off by a light, yoghurty tang.

Lincolnshire Poacher

milk type
Cow

coagulant
Animal Rennet

milk treatment
Raw

West Country Cheddar meets Comté in this cheese, which typically boasts a smooth, densely creamy texture and flavours that can range from rich, savoury and brothy to long, sweet and almost pineapple-like.

Stichelton

milk type
Cow

coagulant
Animal Rennet

milk treatment
Raw

A juicy acidity and toasty, biscuity notes toward the rind are the hallmarks of Stichelton, though the range of flavours this soft, creamy raw milk blue can exhibit is extraordinary: from crisp green apple right through to beef stock umami.

FAQs

how much cheese to buy?

As a general rule of thumb, we would recommend roughly between 100 and 150 grams per person for after dinner, and a bit more if cheese is the focus of the meal. If you are buying cheese to serve over a couple of days or as part of a buffet, it is advisable to buy a few larger pieces. This will both look better and keep better than many small bits. To help visualise weights, a good tip is to consider that a regular supermarket pat of butter weighs between 200 and 250 grams. If you are at all unsure please give us a call for some advice.

how should i store my cheese?

The best option is to keep your cheese wrapped in its paper within a box in the fridge. This will prevent the cheese from drying out and absorbing other flavours. Your cheese will arrive wrapped in waxed cheese paper, which achieves the best possible balance between maintaining humidity around the cheese and allowing it to breathe. We are happy to provide some free extra cheese paper, just search for "cheese paper" and add it to your basket. We don't recommend cling film or foil as it can cause the cheese to sweat which will negatively affect the flavour.
