Crémant de Loire, Domaine de Veilloux

Amongst the traditional method sparkling wines, a Crémant de Loire is often a great choice. Made with 50% Chardonnay and 50% Menu Pineau (Orbois), a blend which gives the wine more texture and length, as well as an added dimension to the fruit. One year of lees ageing gives a creaminess to this well balanced, lively fizz.

Crémant de Loire, Domaine de Veilloux

Produced by Domaine de Veilloux, Loire, France.

Domaine de Veilloux is a small estate in a quiet part to the Loire Valley near Cheverny. The estate has been family-owned since the French Revolution, and six generations of the Quenioux family have worked the land; Michel and Sylviane Quenioux took over in 1994. Michel, a firm believer in the health and environmental benefits of organic and biodynamic farming, implemented these practices from the start and obtained their certification in 1998. The domaine now includes just over 25 hectares, all of which are grown using sustainable, organic methods. Almost all of the wines are blends, and hands-off winemaking ensures the integrity of each variety. He uses a gravity fed system when he can, fermentation is by indigenous yeasts and use of sulphur dioxide is limited. Ageing periods are usually long, resulting in layered, complex wines with the freshness typical of the Cheverny appellation.
