Silvio took over the Montesecondo estate from his father in 1999, after several years of living and working in New York City. He soon converted the estate to organic in 2004 and became focused on working in harmony with the earth in order to allow the wines to "express their terroir fully".

This particular wine was made to challenge the popular, oaky Tuscan styles that had dominated the American market whilst Silvio was living there. The grapes are hand-picked from 25 year old vines and aged for 9 to 12 months in cement tanks, instead of oak barrels.
