Washbourne

Made by Peter Howarth at Sharpham Dairy

Sharpham, Totnes

Washbourne is named after a nearby hamlet to Sharpham Dairy, where sheep were once bathed in the river Wash.

Washbourne is made by Sharpham Dairy, which was originally founded by environmentalist Maurice Ash at his Sharpham Estate in the 1970s. Sharpham Dairy is now owned by Greg & Nicky Parsons who, alongside head cheesemaker Peter Howarth, make a range of cheeses at the South Devon Food hub, still close to the River Dart. Washbourne is made using sheep's milk from East Devon sheep farmers, Tom & Helen Garland, and is an unpressed. washed curd cheese with a pliable and smooth texture.
